Video features will be a new regular blog post category here on Jason Collin Photography going forward. The videos will include photography tips, like this one does, news and updates, as well as behind the scenes of how I make the photos I do. In this photography tip, I show the best and cheapest piece of gear in my camera bag, the air blower!
Dessert Photography from all angles in Albuquerque
This series of food photography photos from Luca Italian Bistro in Albuquerque, New Mexico feature the sweeter side of the menu with a series of desserts (part 1, part 2). Thanks to the fantastic presentation of the desserts on their plates, it was easy to make delicious looking photos of these Italian specialties. From detailed macro shots, to table top presentations, I created for the client a variety of professional dessert photos to help them attract more customers. Here at Jason Collin Photography, the goal is to maximize the impact my photos make for clients to help them get more business. My photos make money for my clients!
Photographing the orchestra at Albuquerque Academy
Now having photographed two plays at Albuquerque Academy in Albuquerque, New Mexico, I am excited about expanding into the area of theatre photography. The latest play I photographed was the final dress rehearsal for Pirates of Penzance (see those photos). Before the performance started, I had a chance to photograph the orchestra getting warmed up in the pit. I had free range to go anywhere in the auditorium, including the catwalk! Also, the lighting changed during the warmup from very bright to the actual dark light level that would be used when the play was being performed. The last photo was of all the musicians out of the bit and on the stage for a clear group photo. I look forward to photographing their next play and of course sharing those photos with you here on Jason Collin Photography.
What it takes to navigate 10 miles offroad where no roads go
This week I made my second trip this month to the El Morro area of Cibola County, New Mexico on a rural land real estate shoot for Hemingway Land. Regular followers of Jason Collin Photography will note that rural land photography is a frequent, and large part of my business. However, I never really detail all that it involves logistically, and then physically, to do a shoot like this that takes me 10+ miles down poorly maintained dirt roads in my Jeep Renegade Trailhawk.
Photo Tip: take just one lens with you to focus on one type of shot
When I go out with my camera for personal photography, I like to take just one lens with me so that I am really focused on making one type of photo. For a hike along the Tunnel Canyon trail in Tijeras, New Mexico, on my Sony a7 iii was the Sony 90mm f/2.8 G Macro lens. Before I left the house i was thinking what type of photos did I feel like taking that day, and despite possible being out in wide open space, having distant views, I was feeling getting close up, so I chose the macro lens. That said, there were not that many great macro subjects on the trail, but there were some large boulders with moss on them that caught my eye. The lighting was not the greatest, but the macro lens is about showing small details anyway and getting really shallow DoF.
Downtown Albuquerque all of a sudden has been an in demand location for my professional headshot photo services! Often when I debut a new photo style on Jason Collin Photography new clients see it and want it too. Such was the case for these lawyer headshots with Scott of Turner Law Firm. The advantage of shooting on location is that you get an absolutely unique background for your headshot. This is demonstrated by the fact just 15 minutes earlier, at the same two downtown ABQ locations, I photographed his partner, Joshua, with the same lighting setup, same intersections in the background, and you can see how different his headshots turned out.
Tramway Albuquerque New Mexico luxury real estate drone photos
As a certified drone pilot in Albuquerque, New Mexico, I regularly photograph luxury real estate for my clients, like Fred & Sandra Creek of ABQhomes to help sell their properties faster and to be able to compete in the modern real estate market. Here at Jason Collin Photography, I have been at the leading edge of drone aerial photography and video since 2017. What drone aerial photos allowed me to do for this property was show its amazing neighborhood with a large park right next door as well as its proximity to the Sandia Mountains. The lot also has mature landscaping that would block views of the home from the ground, but from the air the drone shows the majesty of the tall trees surrounding the house.
