For regular readers of this photography website, I often say when I go to car shows I usually focus on detail shots of cars because getting good, full shots are nearly impossible due to lots of people around, other cars parked too closely, and often bad light. There were not so many people around this classic Cadillac Coupe deVille, but I still mostly focused on the details because they were so interesting to me. What kind of car has two hood emblems? When is the B-pillar all the was in the back and emblazoned with yet another badge? Then what I am pretty sure did not come from the factory, how often do you see a skull floating in the cabin?
In my 10-year pursuit of getting a posed photo of Kiki where she does not look like she is being taken back to the pound, I share another unsuccessful attempt at a studio shot of Kiki, where she yet again looks like she is being taken to the pound. Why does Kiki look so sad when I try to take a photo of her?? In candids outside, I can get her looking happy, but trying to get a nicely lighted portrait, nope! She is actually a very happy dog!
Looking for a destination to end a drive at while scouring Google Maps, I saw Juan Tabo Picnic Site nestled in the norhern end of the Sandia Mountains and thought, let’s try this. I assumed it would have a nice view, and it did, though not as sweeping or panoramic as I thought. Hustling to get my tripod out and my camera mounted on it, I got the last peak of the sun over the foothills to the west. I liked having the boulders for the foreground, rather than just a distant shot of the horizon and sky. Once off of Tramway, the road to this spot would be a good driver’s road, if it were a closed road. The tight twists require the speed limit to be 25mph and then 15mph and the narrow road allows for no spirited driving with other cars and bicycles sharing the road. Still, it is a good spot to end and catch the sunset, even if slowly.
3 Cities 3 Law Offices for Headshots in New Mexico
In one week I traveled over 600 miles across New Mexico to make headshots of all three offices for Noble Law Firm. I started with the furthest first, going all the way down to Las Cruces (3 hours away), which as it were, had the smallest staff! Then the very next day I went up to Santa Fe (1 hour away) to make that locations’s headshots. The last office was the closest, right here in Albuquerque, where I not only made headshots, but also candids of the lawyers in action.
While out on a Saturday morning drive in the M3, somewhere in the middle of the desert between I-40 and I-25, I stopped to get some drone shots of the M3 itself. with my DJI Mavic Pro drone. Just after launching the drone, a train rolled by and I quickly changed subjects! I took this surprise opportunity to capture a few trains passing in succession make their way through a wide open desert landscape. As I often say, you never know what you will actually see with a drone up in the air!
While out on a drone aerial photoshoot for a client in remote Rio Rancho, turning away from the actual property site, I saw from the drone’s point of view this long desert road that is apparently a popular spot for motorcycles to do burnouts on! This is something that would have been very hard to observe from ground level. I am often surprised by what I find when I get home and import drone aerial photos. Even without the tire marks, I like the view the drone captured where the winding road takes the viewer into the desert, but the height of the drone keeps the viewer safe from the hardships of the desert, allowing quick escape if necessary.
This is an unusual blog post or me as I do not usually post much personal content on this, my business website. It is also extremely rare that I have an entire weekend off, and even rarer that it is spent out of town on an overnight trip that was not part of a photo job. Then also I have not really talked about realizing a life long dream a few months ago of owning a proper sports car. However, a weekend trip to Las Vegas, New Mexico with Jessica and our dogs Kiki and Artie was that good I decided to share. This all came about because of the RSW Cruise 2019, otherwise it would never of happened!
