Book Cover Photo Shoot in Albuquerque with an author friend
When local Albuquerque author and friend Sonja Dewing contacted me last week about needing some book cover photos for her, to be written the upcoming weekend, memoir, I was glad I had a last minute spot left in my schedule for the week. There were two concepts for the book cover, one using just some of her items from her time in service (like dog tags, etc) and then one with her holding some of these items. We made the lay flat image first using one of my new Duo Boards with a faux (but hyperrealistic) wood background. Then we made the photo with Sonja on a white seamless background with some of those items in her hand and on her person in various ways (check out the BTS shot below). Over the weekend she chose to go with the items on the wood background for the actual book cover photo. I think the final result turned out great!
It’s always extra special when friends choose you as their family photographer. Such was the case when Brian (of Noventum Custom Software) brought his family to the JCP Home Studio for a candid family portrait photo session. His son Alex wasted no time in getting things going for some fun candids! Thank you Brian and Nadya for choosing me as both your family photographer and business photographer!
Creative ideas for actor portfolio shots in Albuquerque
Local Albuquerque actor O’Brien visited the JCP Home Studio for a series of portfolio shots and headshots. Working on a white seamless background in a Covid-19 safe shooting environment, I was able to make for O’Brien a wide variety of high impact photos to fill out his acting portfolio with, and a headshot that will catch the eye of casting directors. This was a really fun photo shoot with O’Brien being open to my ideas and bringing his own ideas as well. The result was a varied portfolio shoot with maximum creativity. Thank you O’Brien for choosing me as your photographer!
A large white seamless background is part of many photo studios, including here at the JCP Home Studio. For a professional photographer, this is a great tool to have. However, I think anyone could benefit from having a large, white seamless paper background in their home! Check out the video tip for why.
In my 10-year pursuit of getting a posed photo of Kiki where she does not look like she is being taken back to the pound, I share another unsuccessful attempt at a studio shot of Kiki, where she yet again looks like she is being taken to the pound. Why does Kiki look so sad when I try to take a photo of her?? In candids outside, I can get her looking happy, but trying to get a nicely lighted portrait, nope! She is actually a very happy dog!
Anyone that has met Jessica knows she is a pretty huge The Nightmare Before Christmas fan. I could not even tell you the number of Nightmare themed items she owns, it has to be over 200! She often dresses up as Sally from the movie, and it just so happened that I already had a white seamless background setup from an earlier shoot as she was getting ready to go to a Halloween in August party (seems mighty close to actual Halloween, but that’s just me!) so that allowed for a quick cosplay photo shoot before she left! Jessica posed to retreat a few of Sally’s actual poses from the movie after having done her own makeup and donning her Sally dress. I think she looks great, but I may be biased!
