My first young actor headshot session with Joseph was back in April of this year. How much can things change in 8 months, well, just take a look at the photos from that first shoot! When he arrived with his mom, Kristen, to my photo studio in Pacific Grove, I noticed right away and the style of headshot shoot we did this time reflected the new roles that Joseph is now ready to take on by looking older. Kristen had sent me some guidelines from Joseph’s agent for this shoot helping me prep the studio for the new style of headshots the agent wanted this time. For this session, I shot with a single light, and Joseph was seated on a posing stool for most of them, and then the biggest change was shooting with a shallower DoF and tighter in. Then, the agent provided guidelines wanting a more natural look, so a bit of imperfection in the hair for example was actually good! I really like the results we got in a session that took less than an hour, but yet still yielded a variety of backgrounds, wardrobe, poses, and expressions, as well as glasses on and off. Ian, a local actor, contacted me with two specific headshots he wanted, one that was kind of moody and serious, and the other that was lighter and smiling. So that’s exactly what we set out to do in our headshot photo session here at the Jason Collin Photography Studio in Pacific Grove, California. Whatever the client wants, whatever the scope is, that’s why I tailor the shoot too. We started with the moody headshot, settling on a background look, and then finished with the smiling, friendlier style headshot changing up the background to bright white for that. This was not a normal actor headshot photo shoot for me, as I first met Robyn over 15 years ago at a dog park all the way in St. Petersburg, Florida, where our dogs, born only 10 days apart in 2009, became each other’s first best friends (see the best photo of them playing together). I went on to photograph her daughter’s wedding some years later (making one of my all time favorite photos with Christmas lights), then we both end up moving to California just about a year apart. She came to visit me in Pacific Grove and as she is pursuing acting now, I made headshots for her after we caught up over lunch. Thank you Robyn for everything over the years!

I met Elijah some months ago playing ultimate frisbee. I learned he is an actor and and he learned I was a photographer, so we came to discuss making new headshots for him right here in Pacific Grove, California as we only live a few blocks from each other! Shooting here at the Jason Collin Photography Studio allows for convenient tethered shooting reviewing results on a 43” TV screen to see in detail each headshot as it is made in real time. This lets clients clearly see their headshot as we work on making the exact headshot wanted, and also allows for more creativity seeing results as they are shot and what works best in terms of background and lighting.
