A Different Perspective for Yours Truly

This shoot was a role reversal for me. Instead of being behind the camera, I asked my friend Felix to come into the studio to help make photographs of me! I am not often the one in front of the camera, especially not my own camera. Felix knows about photography some, and we have known each other for a while, so it was easier for me to relax a little while he was making headshots and branding photos for me that I really needed. I set up the lighting and the background, described what I was looking for in terms of photos to Felix, and he helped out also with posing ideas, getting me to relax (not look so serious, ha ha), and just general reassurance — all the things I do for my clients normally!

A Headshot Session Designed for Real-World Use

Every headshot session is different, even when you have done hundreds like I have. You never know what is most important to a client until they are in the studio. My experience of making hundreds of headshots allows me to, in real time, provide what each particular client needs. At the start of Allison’s session to make a new headshot for her company’s website, I had no idea I would end up converting her edited headshots to black & white, but I just thought they really worked in black & white, in addition to color. Once we found the pose that Allison liked, we stuck with that and focused on hair position, and background color. We shot on two different gray backgrounds to provide the variety of headshot here, along with two different sweeping hairstyles. I did not know at the start this shoot would go this direction, but I listen to my clients and then make the best headshots I can based on that real time collaboration with clients. Shooting tethered to a 42” screen helps them see, again in real time, which direction they want to go for their headshot style. Thank you Allison for a creative shoot with some of my favorite black & white headshots I have made to date!

The search for a tie during a headshot session!

Chase contacted me with a sudden need for a headshot, and not just any headshot, a military service style headshot, which I have actually never done before. Fortunately, I had time in my schedule to get him in my Pacific Grove Photo Studio the very next day. The scramble right up until shooting time was finding a flag to use in the background! Chase found one last minute, but it was too tall to stand up on its base in my studio even with its high ceilings. So I then had to figure out how to prop it up at an angle so it could first, fit, and second, look like it needed to. There was use of a lot of clamps and a couple of light stands to make the final background happen! But!! Then Chase had forgotten his tie and there really was not time for him to drive back home to get it. So I thought, let’s check the nearby thrift stores for one. We had to go to three to find one that was close to what he needed, albeit the wrong color. Dark blue was close enough, so that in editing I could adjust it so it looked black like he needed. As you can see, this was not the usual headshot session, but I was glad to be able to pull everything together in a true team effort to make these headshots. Good luck Chase with your applications!

Your LinkedIn Photo Often Creates the First Impression

For many professionals, LinkedIn is the first place a potential client, employer, referral partner, or colleague goes to learn more about you. Before they read your experience or recommendations, they see your profile photo. A professional LinkedIn headshot helps you appear confident, approachable, and current. If your photo is outdated, cropped from a casual snapshot, or simply does not represent where you are in your career today, it may be time for an update.

A Photographer Experienced with LinkedIn Headshots

Over the years, Jason Collin Photography has photographed dozens of professionals who specifically needed headshots for LinkedIn. Many clients arrive saying the same thing: they know they need a professional photo, but they are not sure how to pose, what expression works best, or how to look natural in front of the camera.

That is where experience matters. Jason works patiently and collaboratively with each client, guiding them through the entire process so the final images feel relaxed, confident, and authentic. Even people who normally feel uncomfortable being photographed often leave the session surprised at how easy and enjoyable the experience was.

Headshots for a Pacific Grove Realtor

It was my pleasure to have local Pacific Grove realtor and fellow Rotarian, Arleen, visit my photo studio for updated headshots. Anytime people I know in the local business community choose me as their photographer, I am very flattered. Arleen has a lot of personality so I knew it would not be hard to get great headshots of her! With a wardrobe change, and several background colors changes, I was able to make a variety of modern headshots for Arleen without taking up much of her very valuable time, as realtors are very busy of course! Arleen also gives back to the PG community through her volunteering with the PG Rotary Club which is where I first met her. Thank you Arleen for all you do and for choosing me as your headshot photographer!

A New Realtor, A Strong First Impression

Kyle visited my photo studio here in Pacific Grove, California needing professional headshots as he just became a realtor. He chose a distinctively colored blazer that I thought was a great idea to establish a personal brand, and for his headshots to stand out even more from his competition. Kyle did great in front of the camera wanting two different smiles for his headshots both on a clean white background. He liked his headshot photo session so much he soon wrote a 5-star review. Thank you Kyle for choosing me as your headshot photographer and I look forward to working together again!
