Actor Headshots in Pacific Grove for Lloyd Brewer
Studio headshots for a Monterey actor, performer, and theatre creative
Actor headshots need to show personality, range, confidence, and approachability in a way that feels useful for auditions, social media, websites, and professional promotion. For this studio headshot session in Pacific Grove, Lloyd Brewer came in with help from his social media consultant so we could create images that support both his acting work and his public creative presence in the Monterey performing arts community.
Studio Headshots for a Monterey Actor and Theatre Creative
Lloyd Brewer, also known professionally as LJ Brewer, came to my Pacific Grove studio for an actor headshot session. Lloyd is a local actor, performer, creative, and co-owner of Paper Wing Theatre & Supper Club on Cannery Row in Monterey. Lloyd had ideas for his headshots, but we were also very freewheeling in the studio seeing what worked best. For the first time, a client brought their social media consultant to a shoot! So it really was a team effort in creating the look of all these headshots for Lloyd. We set out with a goal of making a series photos that show a range of emotions that can open up Lloyd to roles other than villains, which he said he often plays. His Instagram profile name is even “reluctant_villain.” It was great working with Lloyd and his social media consultant, and very interesting to also see their own process for choosing the final photos from the session which we did in studio at the end of the session. Good luck in New York Lloyd and thank you for choosing me as your headshot photographer!
Need Actor Headshots or Creative Branding Photos?
Actor headshots are different from standard business headshots. They need to feel professional, but they also need to show character, presence, and range. Whether you need headshots for auditions, theatre promotion, IMDb, social media, a personal website, or a creative portfolio, a studio session can give you a variety of images to use across platforms.
Actor Headshots Showing Range and Personality
Actor headshots need to show more than one expression or one “safe” look. For Lloyd’s studio session, we created a range of images with different lighting, backgrounds, clothing, expressions, and energy so he would have options for acting, promotion, social media, and creative branding.
Some images feel warmer and more approachable, while others have a more dramatic, serious, or character-driven feel. That variety is especially useful for actors because the right headshot depends on the role, audience, and opportunity.
Behind the Scenes of an Actor Headshot Session
This behind-the-scenes photo shows part of the setup used during Lloyd’s actor headshot session in my Pacific Grove studio. For acting headshots, the final image is not only about choosing the right light, background, and camera settings. It is also about creating the right mood, energy, expression, and positioning for the kind of roles and professional image the client wants to communicate.
This session was collaborative, with Lloyd’s social media consultant helping provide direction and feedback during the shoot. Together, we worked through the lighting, expression, posture, and overall vibe so the final headshots would feel intentional and useful for acting, promotion, social media, and creative branding.
A Local Actor Connected to Monterey Theatre
Lloyd is also closely connected to Paper Wing Theatre & Supper Club in Monterey, where he is listed as co-owner, performer, and creative partner. Paper Wing Theatre & Supper Club is located on Cannery Row and describes itself around live performance, community, and theatre for everyone.
That local theatre connection adds another layer to this headshot session. These were not only actor headshots in a general sense. They were images for someone actively involved in the local performing arts scene, where personality, visibility, and professional presentation all matter.

Actor Headshots That Feel Comfortable and Useful
Many people feel nervous before a headshot session, even performers. My approach is to keep the shoot relaxed, collaborative, and guided so the person being photographed is not left wondering what to do. I help with expression, posture, small adjustments, and pacing throughout the session.
That matters because a headshot should not only look professional. It should feel like the person in the photo is present, confident, and comfortable.
Dramatic Actor Portraits for Character and Casting
For this set of actor headshots, we leaned into a more dramatic look with darker tones, directional lighting, and a serious expression. This type of image can be useful when an actor wants to show intensity, presence, confidence, or a more character-driven side of their range.
Actor headshots do not all need to have the same expression or energy. A stronger gallery often includes variety, from approachable and warm to serious and cinematic, so the actor has images that can fit different roles, auditions, promotional uses, and creative opportunities.
