Carolynn was visiting Albuquerque from the midwest taking acting lessons here. She contacted me about making actor headshots for her during her visit and I am very glad that the timing worked out because I am thrilled with the results we were able to make in just a one hour headshot session. Shooting tethered allowed us to get the exact look in real time that Carolynn wanted for each wardrobe change. We also dialed in her own custom color background that make her headshots unique. It was great working in partnership with Carolynn on crafting these headshots getting every detail just right. Wanting to escape the heat of the city yet again, going to over 7,200 feet in elevation to the forest surrounding the San Antonio Campground in the Jemez Valley area of New Mexico, brief relief was found walking among the tall trees and the moss covered rocks. Naturally I had my camera with me, and wanted to look for secrets and textures of the forest. I recently learned a new term for fallen trees, dead fall. How the tree in the above photo came to rest like that in a dead fall of horizontal symmetry is such a secret I was looking for. Large rocks sat in isolation with moss growing on them, and being mostly in desert areas of New Mexico, these were not often seen textures with life clinging and growing to the rocks. I imagine to the moss and such on these rocks, each rock feels like its own planet in a galaxy of trees.
Summerfest returns to Albuquerque with music, cars, and food
Summerfest 2022 Albuquerque returned for the first time in three years (last was in 2019, see car photos). Summerfest is a combination of multi-stage concerts, a car show, and street food. It was extremely hot this year, even after 7pm, but I managed to get a few photos before melting. I chose low angle composition for all these shots to show the viewer something you could not already just see when walking by at typical eye level. Plus using low angle with an empty foreground draws the eye of the viewer into the photo, as seen in both photos featuring cars. Add to that using leading lines, and the photos have two composition styles to show a different look at Summerfest.
Candid Commercial Portraits for the Engineering team at BHI ABQ
It was great to return to the Bohannan Huston campus for another two days of photography right here in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Three years ago I made dozens of headshots and a handful of candid commercial portraits. This time, more of the engineers at BHI wanted to get their own cool candid to feature when they go to conferences, events, and have an alternative to their headshot. Over the course of two mornings, I found a variety of backgrounds right outside their building such that two dozen people each got their own unique candid commercial portrait. Thank you to the tea at BHI for being so organized, and to the engineers for being so great in front of the camera, even outside on two warm summer mornings!
Waking up Saturday morning and not wanting to spend a hot weekend in Albuquerque just sweltering, I headed to Santa Rosa with intentions of swimming in the natural spring they have there, called the Blue Hole. I actually first saw the Blue Hole five years ago, but returning from a 2 month road trip, I just wanted to make it back to ABQ dry. This time I was ready with swimsuit on from leaving the house! However, it was overwhelmingly busy upon first arrival, but after 5pm there were only a few people left and I finally had my chance to make the jump. People of all ages were jumping in, including kids, and I am a very strong and confident swimmer. Nevertheless, upon standing on the rocky overhang, which of course looked much higher up once actually on it than it did from the angle you see above where I took the photo, I felt a bit of hesitation. It is definitely not nothing jumping in from up there! I jumped in feet first and the 61F felt refreshing as I made my way back up to the surface then swam to the steps.
Fun and creative product shoot for tea in Albuquerque
My latest product shoot in the JCP Home Studio was with Alicia of Live Well Tea Company. She wanted her full product line of teas to be photographed in clear, clean, and also creative ways. Each collection of teas got a straight line shot, and a fun stacked shot too. Alicia was present for the entire shoot helping choose which order and placement for the teas for best color flow and visual appeal. I always welcome the client to be present for their product photo shoots, after all, they know their products best! Consistent lawyer headshots over the years for Vapri Weeks
One of my longest term clients here in Albuquerque is the law firm of Vrapi Weeks (formerly Noble Law). I have made everything from headshots to interior photos to aerial drone photos for them at their various New Mexico locations. Anytime they get a new attorney, it is easy for them to visit me here at the JCP Home Studio and get the exact same style headshot as I have previously made for all the other attorneys at the firm. Such was the case when Aspyn visited for her headshot session. Everything was setup in advance for the framing that Vrapi Weeks likes for headshots, so it only took up 5 minutes of Aspyn’s time.
