For example, two weeks before I landed in Seoul, South Korea, I had never been abroad before, I was about to attend Claremont Graduate University's PhD program in California, and it had never crossed my mind to work overseas. Not quite as dramatic as that, but in a similar fashion, getting a SUV to better match my work and personal lifestyle here in Albuquerque, New Mexico as a professional photographer and certified drone pilot, had only fluttered across my mind a few times. I was not even sure if it would be possible as I still had payments left on my 2013 Mazda3 sedan, which I totally loved and had zero problems with in owning it for 42,000 miles.

Even a more modest house on a very small lot can benefit from the unique viewpoint drone video and photos provided. For example, 3648 Arboleda Senda NE in Albuquerque, New Mexico was a challenge because of the large trees right in front of the house and the close proximity of neighboring homes. I still found a way, in less than 10 minutes of flying time, to feature the house using my DJI Mavic Pro drone to show its setting at the foot of the Sandia Mountains and how pretty it is to have those flowering trees out front.

Read MoreI met Celestina at a networking event back in the fall. She had a table with some healthy energy snack balls that were very tasty. We stayed in touch and met up to talk shop about having one's own business that you basically run all by yourself. She wanted to work on new branding for her business of coming to your home and making a professionally cooked meal for you and friends. I suggested we make some photos of her in action doing what she does, and this week we met at a very cool downtown Albuquerque loft apartment to use its amazing kitchen as a background for her cooking.
