Breaking the rules for this comedic actor headshot in ABQ
I have had an increasing number of actors visit the JCP Home Studio lately to get great headshots to help them with their show business careers. It is always great to have an actor in front of the lens as I can just tell them to turn it on, and then all I have to do is make sure the lighting is right. For this shot though, I did suggest breaking the rules sort of, by having Connor turn back against his body, but then have his eyes look back toward center. When I made the shot I thought it did not work, but once we looked at it on the big 27” 4K monitor at the studio we both liked it right away. Thanks Connor for letting me suggest some unusual poses that turned out to be our favorite in the end!
On a recent rural land photography shoot in the Navajo Dam area, the road to the property was a beauty for driving: winding and sweeping between mesas with good pavement and sight lines. Even though I was just in my Jeep Renegade Trailhawk, that is designed to shine more offroad than on, it was still a great drive. I made this HDRlandscape photo to show that New Mexico indeed has some great driving roads.

PhD Portraits on UNM Campus Albuquerque New Mexico
Our very own Jessica graduated from UNM with her PhD in Medieval Studies! How do you note such an occasion? With a campus crossing portrait shoot using the giant U for university, the library where many books were checked out over the years, and the lobos on campus with which to run into the future with! Add in some close-ups and an epic jumping shot, and you have an amazing portrait session to remember an even more amazing accomplishment! Congrats Jess Jess!
I used to get to make architecture photos a lot, actually, when teaching DSLR photography lessons in Florida. I would meet my students in downtown St. Petersburg or Tampa where there are both tall office buildings and fancy skyscraper condos too. So i found myself in downtown ABQ last Friday evening and realized, I have not seen a view like this before so pointed my Nikon with 50mm lens on up toward this interesting building.
Nicole called me to see if I had same day availability to make actorheadshots for her as she was going to audition for a role in a Netflix series and needed high quality headshots asap here in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I already had another headshot session scheduled and a drone flight too, but I we were able to schedule a late evening photoshoot. The results, to speak frankly, could be my best photography work to date as far as a single person in studio photo shoot.
