Skip contacted me about making a very special photo for him and his wife. They have the tradition of having a photo made on their anniversary in the same pose, with the same outfits too. This all started with a photo made on a cruise ship! So now about every 5 years they have a new portrait made like that. This is the exact kind of surprise photography shoot I love to have here at Jason Collin Photography. Thank you so much Skip for choosing me as your photographer for thiis special anniversary portrait photo!
Local for National BMW Car Photography in Albuquerque
Our local BMW CCA chapter will be featured in the upcoming national BimmerLife Magazine with a theme of youth for the feature. So I met two of the youngest members of the club on Tramway at sunset time to make a series of roller car photos to be the highlight images for that article. It was actually my very first time to attempt this kind of shot. I was kneeling backwards in a convertible BMW Z4 to get these shots and at times did not feel the most stable! It was a good learning experience and I was glad to be able to at least get these shots to send to the magazine for the feature. Thanks to Shiv, Rob, Christina, and Dan for a team effort in creating this car roller shots.
While in White Signal, New Mexico on a rural land real estate photography shoot near midday, I saw in one photo a part of the sky that looked darker than it should. I had accidentally captured part of the sun ring. So I went to a clear spot on the property and pointed my the lens of my Sony a7R IV straight up and made the photo you see above. This was the first time I ever got to see such a large sun ring because of the sun being nearly directly overhead.
More and more clients are visiting the JCP Home Studio in Albuquerque, New Mexico wanting headshots for LinkedIn. That is what brought Eda, a medical professional, in for her headshot session. We worked with variations on a gray background and even though a similar looking pose to frame right, as I tell clients, headshot photography is a subtle art so just a slightly different pose and a small change in lighting result in two distinct headshots. Thank you Eda for choosing me as your headshot photographer!
This is another instance of how my rural land real estate work allows me to see places I absolutely never would normally. On the way back from an extended series of property shoots in Chaves County New Mexico, just northeast of Roswell, while actually looking for another nature area but never finding it, this was a true stumbling upon (remember that site?) of Cocklebur Lake, a very, very dry lake. The skies were overcast so I knew then while making these photos I would ultimately convert them to black and white as the landscapes themselves were already nearly devoid of color. Walking on the dry lake bed, under a wide open sky, one could feel the yearning of the land for water. In that sense this dry lake felt like an old memory that you could only 5% remember. That’s what I feel a dry lake is to me.
On Location in Nambe and Santa Fe with the Precision Survey Crew
Fantastic new client Precision Surveys, Inc has already had me all over the area between Rio Rancho and Nambe for a series of on location commercial portrait shoots of the PSI crew in action. Working for Larry and his crew was a lot of fun, and some of the crew even stepped in to help as photographer’s assistants! They told me that the mesa you can see above, is where Curley (spoilers) died in the movie City Slickers. You do not often get interesting movie trivia like that on a photo shoot! This on location photo shoot was a lot of fun and thank you to Larry for choosing me as your photographer and to the crew for being great both in front of and behind the camera!
Now one of my most longtime clients, Tavis of Morrison Outdoors keeps creating outstanding sleeping bags for kids in ever more vibrant colors! Last month he sent me an orange sleeping bag, and now a cool purple one. My sleeping bag as a kid never looked like this! As a professional product photographer in Albuquerque, New Mexico, one of my main goals is to deliver consistent results for clients, even over years of shooting the same product. For example, while shooting this new purple sleeping bag for Tavis, I had on screen the last orange sleeping bag shoot so I could as exactly as possible recreate each and every shot from lighting to the composition angle. Thank you Tavis for continuing to choose me as your product photographer and I am very glad to be a small part of the Morrison Outdoors family!
