Mavic 3 Cine drone debut for the City of Albuquerque Baseball Park
My very first client for my new DJI Mavic 3 Cine drone was the City of Albuquerque itself making a promotional video of a baseball park on the westside of the city that offers great views of the Sandia Mountains. I was of course at the baseball park on an off-day with no games to being able to fly freely over, around, and through the park. From this ver first flight, the dramatically increased flight time of the Mavic 3 Cine over the Mavic 2 Pro was noticeable as I felt none of the stress of having to get in all the shots I wanted to before landing and changing batteries. The result of this, I can focus more on being creative for the client, uninterrupted by battery changes when flying the drone. Thank you Damian and the City of ABQ for a great opportunity to showcase the picturesque desert baseball fields.
The beauty of Angel Fire in winter in drone aerial photos
For regular readers of this website, it is no secret Angel Fire has become my favorite place in New Mexico. I have been here many times in the past, but all in summer, and since Angel Fire is most famous for being a ski area, it was great to finally visit the town in winter with snow on the ground! I had a dual mission here, getting drone video of a vacation rental house (which the owner kindly let me stay in!) and working for my main rural land client getting drone photos of his property that just happened to be only 8 minutes from the rental house. I actually thought there would be a lot more snow on the ground here in Angel Fire, but it is the start of March, and the temps have been in the 50s the past few days. It has been great to be in the quiet and beauty of Angel Fire in winter. If I could only run my business from Angel Fire, that would be fantastic!
Driving through solid rock at the Gilman Tunnels of New Mexico
The Gilman Tunnels in the Jemez area of Sandoval County in New Mexico were one of the last more well known, of the lesser known, curiosities in the region I had never yet been to. That was remedied on a winter day with a few snow flakes falling. Up an unassuming neighborhood road you go to end up driving right though a solid rock tunnel. No supporting structures needed to hold up these tunnels hewn right out of the mountainside. Have you been to the Gilman Tunnels? If not, check out the map link below to go visit them this weekend!
Stories from the city, stories from the Sea in Texas
It was my first time to see the Sea, or some part of it, in over 2 years, the longest such stretch of my life, and 2 years too long. Corpus Christi, Texas offers city and sea experiences, both of which you can drive right too. I had never driven on a beach before, as it is not the custom in Florida (I don’t count Daytona). It was both convenient to go a few miles down the shoreline to your own spot and have all your gear right there, but also disconcerting because a car could drive by you while relaxing on the beach! I brought my new DJI Mavic 3 Cine drone with me, and my new Sony 24mm f/1.4 G Master lens to capture these images. I really enjoyed the results of holding my camera low, with a slow shutter speed, and letting the small waves come in and create seascape dreamscapes.
If you are a mountain biker in New Mexico, the trail name Dragon’s Back is probably known to you. It is my single favorite trail to ride in the state that I’ve found so far. If you just like to explore hidden gems and hike, this is also one of the most incredible landscapes in the world, not just New Mexico. Check out the range in topography and geological features the aerial drone photos reveal for this area. It truly is an alien or martian landscape. Is it hard to hike this trail? Not at all. After a bit of a steep incline from parking lot to trailhead, the tail is mostly a rolling trail that even a beginner hiker could do an out and back on. Pack for a longer hike and do the full loop to see the other side. This was also my first time flying my brand new DJI Mavic 3 Cine drone! It was really windy, but you could not tell that from the drone footage. I would like to come back with the drone and better light, and more practice flying it, to really show you what the Dragon’s Back Trail is like and how it definitely is a New Mexico True experience.
Before and After Drone Video for Sunland Asphalt in Belen New Mexico
Back flying for Sunland Asphalt, this time in Belen, New Mexico, I made two visits to Vista del Rio for a “before and after” drone video showing the crew at work putting in the new asphalt, and then the after of the fully repaved community. These types of drone flights are always dynamic and I enjoy the challenge of capturing live action with the drone. Thank you to Jeff of Sunland for continuing to choose me as your drone pilot!
Rural Land Drone Video and Photography now available for Colorado
Already the most prolific rural land real estate photographer and drone pilot in New Mexico, I am now offering my photography and drone services in southern Colorado. This expansion recently took me to Conejos County near La Jara and Alamosa. Hidden down nearly 10 miles of gravel road, and then hidden further in a small hamlet bordered by a hidden creek itself, this property was one of the most lush I have photographed for Hemingway Land (and also the first time I got bit my mosquitos in 2+ years!). This is a high value property and the client wanted the works: 4k drone video, aerial drone photos, and still photos in both daylight and at sunset. The drone video I made of this property opens with one of the single best clips I have ever made for any type of drone video starting at the creek and flying backwards between trees to reveal the mountains in the distance. My goal is to top each video, each shoot I made before and my effort for this property is evidence of that.
