The beauty of Angel Fire in winter in drone aerial photos
For regular readers of this website, it is no secret Angel Fire has become my favorite place in New Mexico. I have been here many times in the past, but all in summer, and since Angel Fire is most famous for being a ski area, it was great to finally visit the town in winter with snow on the ground! I had a dual mission here, getting drone video of a vacation rental house (which the owner kindly let me stay in!) and working for my main rural land client getting drone photos of his property that just happened to be only 8 minutes from the rental house. I actually thought there would be a lot more snow on the ground here in Angel Fire, but it is the start of March, and the temps have been in the 50s the past few days. It has been great to be in the quiet and beauty of Angel Fire in winter. If I could only run my business from Angel Fire, that would be fantastic!
While in Angel Fire, New Mexico recently for a rural land real estate shoot, I also made some twilight commercial real estate photos of Angel Fire Resort. I was actually staying at an Airbnb a two minute walk away, so that let me wait for the most ideal time of light and sky to make these long exposure photos. I have been to Angel Fire five times, which is famous for its skiing, but I have never been there in winter! So I have no idea what it looks like to most people who visit this hidden gem of a small town in northern New Mexico.
Angel Fire, New Mexico is famous for being a winter destination. However, even at the end of April snow still dusts the mountain peaks adding to the drama of dusk. Staying at an Airbnb (Covid-19 safe) condo with amazing views right off the back patio, even though I had already been shooting for hours that day for a rural land real estate client, I got my camera back out to capture the last twilight light of this spectacular spring sky. Here at Jason Collin Photography, after this spring sky show, Angel Fire became my favorite place in New Mexico.
On a recent trip to Angel Fire, New Mexico for a rural land client, I sent my DJI Mavic 2 Prodrone up and was shown a landscape totally different than from where I stood surrounded by tall trees. Going up a hundred feet allows for unique landscape photography. Combining dramatic clouds filling the sky, with the tall pine treetops, and the distant mountains, these drone aerial photos are some of my personal favorites that I have ever made in New Mexico. Here on the Jason Collin Photography blog I always like to show you unique views of known places. Angel Fire is a ski resort town, but I have actually never seen it in snow despite three trips there! So if you have only seen it in snow, from these drone photos, you can see how visiting Angel Fire in the spring after the snow melts reveals it is still a very special place with amazing scenery, especially from the drone’s viewpoint!
Small, but beautiful, Monte Verde Lake in Angel Fire, New Mexico greets you as you arrive from the south. Surrounded by a walking path that points you to various mountain views and tall timber, it is a small haven for those looking for a Nature escape. I share all forms of media of Monte Verde Lake: 4K drone video, 360 drone panorama photo, high resolution mirrorless still photos, and aerial drone photos. Which is your favorite media of the lake?
For those who have explored Colfax County, Rio Arriba County, or San Juan County, they know New Mexico is not just a dusty, desert state, but one, especially in its northern areas, that is very green. I went to a new area of the state recently, to a town called Angel Fire, that is famous for being a ski resort. This being the height of summer, there was no snow or white, but lots and lots of green. I thought I was in Switzerland or perhaps on the set of The Sound of Music with all the rolling hillsides covered in tall green grasses and the larger mountains looming in the distance.
I had been to Taos before for rural land real estate photography and drone video work, but this was my first time to Angel Fire, New Mexico. Even though they are quite close to each other, Angel Fire feels very different from both Taos and everywhere else in New Mexico. The scenery was sweeping and wide open, but green and mountainous. The architecture and design of many buildings was that of a ski lodge. Even in the middle of August, there was a chill in the air! It was fantastic to escape the hot Albuquerque summer even just for a few days and get paid to watch a great sunset through my Nikon on the ground and my DJI Mavic Pro in the air.
