Professional Commercial Photography for a Day Spa in Albuquerque
he whole time I was at Remedy Day Spa in Albuquerque, New Mexico making better than stock images, commercial portraits, and interior and exterior photos, I kept thinking to myself, “who knew this oasis was right in the middle of ABQ??” I met Mandy, the owner, who wanted me to capture the full range of spa services she has available, from secluded wooden barrels hot tub soaks, to professional massage, to a large yoga studio. It was one of the most wide ranging commercial photo shoots I have had. The photos feature the actual Remedy team in them, for that better than stock image photo feel because it shows the actual Remedy Day Spa team in the actual Remedy Day Spa setting. Now, all of Albuquerque can see and discover this hidden gem right in Nob Hill! Thank you Mandy for choosing me as your photographer and also to the Remedy team that did a great job in front of the lens all day. And thank you to Jessica for assisting on this, I wish I had gotten a BTS shot of you holding that huge diffuser over the hot tub!
New Mexico State Senate Candidate on location photo shoot
I always really, really appreciate returning clients to Jason Collin Photography, and especially when the photos I make for them are as important as they are for New Mexico State Senate candidate Athena Christodoulou. Our first photo shoot was here at the JCP Home Studio for headshots. During this time of the coronavirus pandemic social distancing is a must, and for this on location shoot we were always more than 6 feet from each other and no one else was around. Jessica and I both wore masks during the entire shoot as well. It was a fun challenge to shoot in these conditions! Thank you fo Jessica for climbing a wall to get the diffuser in just the right place and to Athena for continuing to choose me as the photographer for her campaign.
Continuing the new series of video features on Jason Collin Photography, this video features a top photo tip regarding another piece of inexpensive photography gear, the diffuser. For only about $40, you can get a 42” diffuser (and most are also reflectors too). In the video you can see me make the two photos below, which are unedited, the only change is one is made in direct sunlight and the other is made with the diffuser over the flower. The diffuser works its magic not just on flowers of course, also people and anything else you want to photograph in direct sunlight.
For regular readers of this blog, you may recognize both Kawtar and my M3. Kawtar is a networking friend who also was a headshot client 2 months ago. She has a custom of having themed photos of her made every New Year’s. This year she wanted to pose with a convertible, and it just so happened I have a convertible! We decided on a parking garage location for the shoot because it is an appropriate setting for using a car as prop. You would never know how cold and windy it actually was from the photos, but Kawtar was up for any ideas I had, and Jessica was a great assistant making sure all the lighting stayed up in the air as needed.
One of my first food photography shoots for UberEats was at Breve ABQ in Albuquerque New Mexico. It was also one of my best no doubt to the fact that one of the owners, Billy, is a professional photographer too and really cared about presentation of the food and had a very nice table to use as a background. I have since gone back to Breve for a photographer's meet up he hosts!
When I get a food photography shoot at a bakery in Albuquerque, New Mexico where I am based, I still think, "yes, photographing cakes and pies and pastries!" However, that is hardly the case. I am learning bakeries sell savory dishes too, like La Luna Bakery and Cafe does. Not a single sweet item photographed that morning! Instead, creative looking stuffed pepper dishes like the one above.
