I was contacted by an industry magazine to visit Dr. Wagner’s orthodontist and denture practice in Albuquerque, New Mexico to make commercial portraits of his team and also headshots of Dr. Wagner himself. Dr. Wagner was really prepared and had his team ready to go for their photos. I guessed this would require working in tight spaces, and I was right and glad I had my trusty 26" Cheetahstand SoupBowl light modifier that fits virtually anywhere. Thank you Dr. Wagner and your entire orthodontist team for making it a smooth and fun shoot!
My custom started long ago on the other side of the world of watching the last sunset of the year bookended by the first sunrise of the new year continued this year from high up on a hill in Tucson, Arizona. The clouds opened up just in time for the sunset and I made it to a clear viewpoint just in time for the sunrise.
This was my first visit to the actual Saguaro National Park, though my second time photographing these statuesque cactus in Tucson, Arizona (check out first photos). This time I wanted to focus on the height and unpredictable arm shapes of the saguaro, shooting in vertical orientation, framing them to extend up and out of the frame. What makes the arms of these saguaro grow in these twisting shapes? It was fun to imagine and anthropomorphize what they looked like and what hand signals I thought they were giving! What do you see in the shapes of these most revered cactus?

Modern Business headshots for the best Albuquerque Real Estate Brokers 2021
One of my very first photo shoots of 2021 was this headshot session for new Albuquerque real estate broker Alexa. She visited the JCP Home Studio for a Covid-19 safe headshot shoot where we covered a wide range of backgrounds and outfits. Starting out on a clean white background, and then moving on to both black and gray backgrounds, even with the same outfit, Alexa had many different looks to choose from. She was open to trying variations too, allowing me to experiment with different lighting setups. I was very happy that Alexa chose 10 headshots from our session! She will not run out of different headshots to use on her listing pages, business cards, and front yard signs anytime soon. Thank you Alexa for choosing me as your headshot photographer and for choosing so many photos.
Thank you for all your support of my local small business in ABQ
Well, I bet for pretty much everyone 2020 did not go even as remotely as planned. I feel incredibly lucky to be the type of photographer that was only minimally impacted. Photographing events & conferences was only about 15% of my business in 2019. Much of my work is rural land real estate which is out in the middle of nowhere and drone work of course does not require getting close to people or being in an enclosed space. In fact, thanks to all my great repeat clients, and fantastic new clients in 2020, I feel very fortunate indeed. Thank you everyone for supporting a local small business owner, and know my philosophy remains as always to try and top the last shoot I did, the last drone flight I did, to continue to bring better and better photos and drone video to my clients in a Covid-19 safe way. I look forward to seeing my business networking friends sometime soon in 2021!
Bringing the River of Lights into the City in ABQ 2020
One of the annual holiday traditions in Albuquerque is the River of Lights at the ABQ BioPark, which is a vast Christmas lights display. I went back in 2018 with a 50mm lens and photographed dinosaurs, a sleepy cowboy, and all sorts of flora and fauna. WIth Covid-19, the usual crowded light viewing experience is not possible, so the park shared some of its illuminated creations with store fronts in the Nob Hill area of Albuquerque. This is why the T-Rex now stalks freely in the city, horny toads eat plants in consignment shops, and a train crosses right over Central Ave.
Fast and Covid-19 safe headshots for insurance agents in Albuquerque
State Farm Agent Justin visited the JCP Home Studio in Albuquerque, New Mexico for a Covid-19 Safe headshot shoot. As an insurance agent, he was looking for a modern, professional headshot. We first used a white background for a most modern, clean look. Then we switched to a gray background for a totally different look, even though I still used the same lighting setup as on the white background. Now Justin in just a quick 8-minute photo session, has two very different headshots to use as needed to make the impression he was with his insurance clients. Thank you Justin for choosing me as your headshot photographer!
