Exploring the wealth of photography in White Sands National Park
The best place to make photographs in New Mexico is unquestionably White Sands National Park. It is the Grand Canyon of New Mexico in that you could go to the park every day for a month, and still makes hours of photos without running out of subject matter. The topography of the park actually changes day to day with the wind! This is at least my fifth visit to the park. I brought just one lens, the Sony 24mm f/1.4 GM. I focused on finding angles. I wanted to include the flora of the park in each shot too. This was also the real world debut of using my new mirrorless camera. The results of the photo above are unlike any photo I made at White Sands before. That is the amazing thing about the park, visit after visit, there is no end to the photos one can make.
New Year is the perfect time for new headshots in Albuquerque
I started out 2023 with a great headshot session with Sarah, who wanted a series of headshots that reflected the fun atmosphere of the business she worked at. With a wardrobe change and glasses change, we were able to create a number of different headshot looks. Add to that an aperture change on my part to create a 3D type shallow depth of field headshot, in just a 30 minute headshot session Sarah finished with 5 different headshot looks. It helped she was great in front of the camera and made the headshot session a lot of fun! Thank you Sarah for choosing me as your headshot photographer!

Favorite Photos and Drone Video of 2022 across categories
For the first time in three years, I have brought back the Favorite Five photos of the year, well actually four photos and one drone video this time! My criteria for choosing my own personal favorite five of the year are that as much as possible, each photo/video must be from a different category. That means not just choosing five landscape photos. Then I give preference to choosing a photo/video that I have not made a similar one to before and that has pushed my ability forward as a photographer and drone pilot.
More and more voice actors are choosing Jason Collin Photography in Albuquerque, New Mexico for high impact headshots. Glenn visited the JCP Home Studio wanting a series of headshots he could use in his voice acting work. The irony was not lost on us regarding the importance of a visual headshot for work that is voice only! However, many voice actors make YouTube videos to promote their work and for that all important YouTube thumbnail cover image, you need a high impact headshot! That’s exactly what I did for Glenn during our shoot, making a range of headshots from serious to smiling on both white and black backgrounds. Thank you Glenn for choosing me as your headshot photographer!
Indoor and outdoor in downtown ABQ personal branding photoshoot
The last photoshoot for 2022 for the ongoing CNM founders project is with the person who invited me to be the photographer for the project herself, Jen Mulliniks. We met right outside her office building in downtown Albuquerque to start the shoot with some street shots. We then went inside and used, at Jen’s own suggestion, some of the buildings unique architectural features. I made the above photo by going half a staircase down, leaving a light hidden behind the wall to light up Jen in the circle. My semi-related inspiration was the cover of Carole King’s album, Tapestry. Thank you Jen for choosing me for this project and for a great photo shoot of your own!
If you are traveling from the east into New Mexico, then Tucumcari is the first town you will come across. It is a historic Route 66 town feature a Route 66 Museum and some of the old motels and eateries leftover from those classic 1950s days. Tucumcari also has a great dinosaur museum. I have had the opportunity to stay in town twice while out on photoshoots. This last time the client wanted drone video and photo highlights of the town. I recommend spending at least a night in Tucumcari the next time you are passing through!
