More and more State Farm insurance agents in Albuquerque, New Mexico are choosing Jason Collin Photography for their headshots. Sharon had a long time photographer partner for her sculptures (check out her website). So when it came to finding another photographer to continue photographing her work, she searched for a long time, and I am glad to say she found and chose me! The Unofficial Photographer for the BMW Club and more!
Besides being a full-time professional photographer (since 2009), I am often the official or unofficial photographer for every group I belong too. Such is the case for the BMW Car Club of New Mexico. I enjoy these unofficial photographer titles because I like to contribute to the groups I belong to. Even during the pandemic, the BMW club organized many Covid-19 safe destination drives to points all over New Mexico. I of course always bring my camera with me, and sometimes the drone too. These photos go out in the club newsletter, and twice a year it’s a personal highlight to see some of those photos in physical print in the Bimmer Life Magazine. Thanks to Dan and other club members for writing the great copy in the magazine, even though I was incorrectly credited for both the writing and the photos.
I recently spent a lot of time in view of the Spanish Peaks. Names simply West and East Spanish Peak, you can find them in Huerfano County, Colorado. These photos were made in March, but there is still plenty of snow covering the mountains. The approximately 13,000 feet tall peaks were a constant as I spent four days photographing rural land real estate all over the area. They would certainly be an amazing view framed in a living room window!

Leslie first visited the JCP Home Studio in Albuquerque, New Mexico for actor headshots in December 2020. She returned for a second set just three months later because she had a hair color change and wanted headshots that featured her new look. For this second shoot, I changed up the listing and style as well, making headshots for her unlike I have for anyone else to date. It was over 20 years ago I saw the brightest stars in the night sky in my life, and ironically it was the furthest I had ever been from the stars themselves as I was at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Now, I unexpectedly have seen the second brightest night sky in my life here in the tiny town of La Veta, Colorado. Strolling outside the Airbnb it was like the Universe had suddenly created 5 times as many stars in the heavens. It was a spectacular site and a nice bonus on what has been a hard photo & drone work trip.

Visiting rural places is a common part of being a rural land real estate photographer. In the past four years I have been to nearly every part of New Mexico, and now this work is taking me into southern Colorado, which is where I found the town of Walsenburg. The client wanted photos from the town, so I actually got paid to walk the historic streets and wonder when the heyday of these places were. I strolled past diners long closed, new stores in old storefronts, and a movie theatre that must have been a lot more exciting in 1961 than 2021. I really like having the opportunity to see places I never normally would, and try and feel the memories of what used to take place in decades past.
