I had been wanting to try out the hyperlapse recording mode on my Mavic 2 Pro drone again for a while, so after seeing interesting skies, I got the drone up in the air to record my second hyperlapse. It had been too long since I made the first one because I totally forgot, again, that at default settings for hyperlapse, even though the drone makes 125 photos over 4 minutes to make the hyperlapse video, it turns out to be just 4 seconds of moving video! I also made a few still aerial drone photos of the stunning clouds catching the last of the light of dusk at twilight.
Hustling to 20 properties in the Socorro County Desert
Typically on rural land real estate shoots for Hemingway Land, it is one property, one evening, starting about 2 hours before actual sunset, making 40 photos of the one property and often a drone video as well. Every now and then they get a bulk purchase and the shooting is very different like on a recent trip to Socorro County, New Mexico. There were 20 properties to shoot, I had to start early in the afternoon in order to finish with enough light, and I only made 3 photos per property. During these bulk shoots I am hustling like crazy from property to property, passing cows and big piles of tires truly out in the middle of nowhere miles from paved road, which in turn is miles from any kind of town. How do these tires get out here??
Justin wanted variety in his business headshots so we started with an on location headshot shoot in Altura Park and finished with in studio shots here at the JCP Home Studio in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I strive with every shoot to make the best headshots in Albuquerque, and I really like challenges like this to back-to-back get headshots results the same regardless of shooting out in a park or in my studio. Justin made things easy being great in front of the camera and having an assistant (thanks Jessica) for on location shoots just is a level of service I want to offer discerning clients who want the best headshot photoshoot experience. In the past three years, I have photographed hundreds of rural land real estate properties in New Mexico, and now I have photographed my first in Colorado. This property was a great introduction to Las Animas County and its mountain views and sweeping green pines. Abandoned in part Lamy Train Station in New Mexico
Even in very, very small towns in New Mexico, one can still find active train stations picking up and carrying passengers in a more relaxed way of traveling long distances. Such is the case with Lamy Train Station that still has two Amtrack trains stop by each day. However, much of the station is now abandoned and is the final resting place of rusting train cars, engines, and cabooses. I have long enjoyed exploring abandoned places, or haikyo, so it was a very pleasant surprise to get to glance through the window of an old train car and wonder when it was last in service, and as always, what stories would it be able to tell?

Atlas Obscura is a great website for finding hidden gems and odd places when traveling. This is how Art Cartopia Museum came on my radar on a recent rural land photography shoot in Trinidad, Colorado. This museum is free (though donations encouraged) and dog friendly indoors and out, and open during Covid-19 for guests wearing masks. What can you see at this museum? Art cars of all kinds, styles, and designs! A van covered in eyeballs? Yes. A huge skeleton driving on top of a car? Yes. A dentist’s dream (or nightmare?) car? Yes. Oddities abound in car form. The owner as one would expect is friendly, a character, and makes you feel like you are the very first visitor ever to the museum, which to me is always a sign of a great host, making you feel like you are the first visitor ever!
