A place long past its hey day, Bombay Beach, for the curiosity seeker, can still hold a lot of interest. The beach itself looks like the wasted remnants of a beautiful sandy beach. Even the rock jetties and wooden posts have fallen into an eerie decay. It feels like a place that has suffered a horror, and that feeling is tangible to the visitor. Stride away from the water and come across a ghost ship, a mysterious cube suspended within a cube, and other assorted random forgotten things made into art or just forgotten memory. Bombay Beach is no longer a vacation destination, but definitely a place to seek out, experience, and then get out before one becomes part of the lost landscape.
It had been a while since I was in Edgewood, New Mexico for a rural land real estate shoot until making a return this week to photograph adjacent lots that were covered in vegetation. I am always glad to see a piece of rural land real estate have a lot of cactus, shrubs, and flora in general as this at least gives me some foreground subject matter to include in my signature HDRsunset shots. An added bonus was this land sitting in small valley with hills nearby to added more visual interest to these landscape shots. When photographing land for clients I do not just include wide open landscape shots. Using either my 70-200mm f/2.8 or 90mm f/2.8 macro lenses I like to get some closeups of the vegetation or flowers if there are any. So when a customer is browsing the gallery she/he gets the macro and micro views of the property.

It was deja vu for me this afternoon as a year and a half ago I was in this very same restaurant space doing another shoot for UberEats for a new restaurant called Bayti. Unfortunately, they went out of business. Now in that space, Need-A-Pita run by the very friendly owner, Alex. He helped out by having all the dishes ready one after another and even let me take home the falafel with extra pita. He said it would be the best pita I ever ate, and he was right. The pita was incredibly light and fluffy. Thank you Alex and all your staff (even one person volunteering to be a hand model) for a great food shoot here in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
A recent drone flight job took me to the far southeast of Albuquerque, New Mexico with the main purpose of making 4K drone video for the client, but while my drone was up in the air, I thought I’d get some still photos as well too as I had never flown in this area before. There is nothing like a drone’s eye view photo to show the grid-like layout of Albuquerque, and the Sandia Mountains looming on the eastern border. Can you see your house in these photos??
I have now been to Navajo Dam more times than any other place in New Mexico for my rural land photography and drone video work, that is an overnight drive away from Albuquerque. In the first 6 months of 2019, I have been there 4 times already! At the end of my most recent trip, due to the land of the property being behind a hill and thus sunset coming earlier to it, I was able to leave the property in time to my surprise with the actual sunset still visible some 10 minutes down the road where you can see a large expanse of Navajo Dam Lake and the marina itself too. A real photographer never passes by a chance to stop and make a photo, so even thought I was tired, and all my photo gear and tripod were well put away, I got my Nikon out and hustled to the road’s edge to make theses New Mexico True photos to share with you.
