I only got to spend a very brief time in Malibu, California. Fortunately, it was spent at the stunning Leo Carrillo State Park, which I just happened to pick out on a map to visit! You have seen my bird's eye view drone photos of this park, now you can see the view from my DJI Mavic Pro drone!
It took far too long to visit Petroglyphs in Albuquerque New Mexico. Many times on my way to photographing rural land properties in Rio Rancho had I past it. Finally, a brief visit was possible just to Black Volcano. A short 4K drone video of Black Volcano is featured above.
For the past three weeks, I spent most evenings at sunset time out in Torrance County New Mexico. It is approximately 45 miles east of Albuquerque, near the town of Moriarty. I would arrive each evening an hour before sunset to make photographs of rural land properties for Hemingway Land Company. These are some of the sunsets I saw each evening out there.
Perhaps the most popular place in all of New Mexico for photographers, there would be no argument from me that this is the most spectacular scene in the state, and for me personally, what of the most amazing places I have been in the world. It is a world of 50% blue and 50% white. Those are the only colors needed.
I was actually out on a commercial portrait shoot near Petroglyph National Monument in west Albuquerque when driving home I saw the Super Blue Blood Moon rising over the Sandia Mountains. At a good vantage point I pulled over, popped the trunk, and took out my Nikon D7200 which already had a 80-200mm lens on it to get some shots!
Last week I spent four days in Taos and the Rio Arriba County area photographing rural properties. When traveling back to Taos from a property 2 hours away in the mountains, going around a bend revealed this spectacular sunset valley view.
The Japanese have a custom of watching the first sunrise of the year. My first year living in Japan friends took me to a Buddhist temple at midnight on New Year's Eve and then to a beach at sunrise. I really like this custom. So this morning shortly after 7am I took my camera and tripod out onto the frosty ground and watched the sunrise over an Iowa cornfield. You can see five jets already streaking to far off destinations so early in the new year!
