Photographing a Unique Cars & Bids Listing
Back in Watsonville to photograph another vehicle for Cars & Bids for Brian of Peixoto Auto Group. This unique truck makes the third vehicle I have photographed him for auction. I am very happy to report that the custom Shelby Mustang I photographed for him last month sold for a very good price! For sure this converted truck was unlike anything I have photographed for auction before. I took the same approach, but the logistics were an extra challenge due to the length of the vehicle for getting the required 360 views photos. Then even though this is a well driven and worked truck, I still want to glam it up with some hero shots if I could. Moving it to a tree covered spot on the property allowed me to hero it up pretty well if I do say so myself! The interior also presented another challenge as there was no backseat to put myself into nor was it a convertible to get full dash shots like I normally would do with a car auction shoot. Good thing I like a challenge and have many car auction shoots of experience to draw on to get the best possible shots, to help Brian get the best possible closing price for this unique truck! This was my second car auction photography shoot for Brian of Peixoto Auto Group, but my first time working with him in person. I had previously photographed a custom travel van for his uncle, which I was glad to hear sold for full list price.
We met in Seacliff, California to photograph a 2016 Shelby Mustang GT Convertible. I have a very methodical approach when photographing a car for an auction site, starting with the exterior coverage photos. This essentially involves photographing the car as if it were being rotated on a giant 360-degree platter — and since it is a convertible, doing it twice from all angles.

I really enjoyed talking with Chris, the owner of this custom van, as I photographed it for the car auction site Bring A Trailer in the Monterey, California area. This van is highly customized, having started out life as a passenger van, but now outfitted with solar, a wi-fi extender, and a shower! Chris was very helpful during the car auction photography shoot allowing me to get the best photos possible of the van, inside and out, so it can sell for the best price on Bring A Trailer. Bruce put a lot of work into modifying his Mini Cooper from engine boosting to custom exterior lights, the exhaust, and even the door sills! Still, it is time for Bruce to say good-bye to his Mini Cooper so he contacted me about making professional photos of it for selling it on the car auction site Bring A Trailer. We met at an abandoned parking lot on the CSUMB campus (don’t tell anyone, ha!) to make the series of photos car auctions sites like Bring A Trailer need and want. There were several challenges with this car auction photography shoot for Bonhams Auctions. One was the weather, which at this time of year in the Monterey peninsula area, and here in Pebble Beach to be exact, is fog and the marine layer basically being omnipresent for days and days at a time. There was a deadline to make for this shoot making it into the guidebook for Qual, so even though there was no blue sky or sunshine, I had to make the best of the weather conditions. Then the second big challenge was that the car does not start, so it could not be moved once rolled out of the garage! I thought the helpers were going to stay and push it around for me while I shoot from the spot with both the best light and best background, as I always have for car auction photography, but this time instead of the car rotating for me, I had to rotate around the car! Despite these two big challenges, I was still pleased with the photos I was able to produce for Bonhams, and more importantly, so was my contact from Bonhams. Thank you Eric for understanding!
