Trains and big skies in Columbus, New Mexico

“Live life on the borderline” greets visitors on the Columbus, New Mexico website. This very small town is after all very close to the border with Mexico, the closest I have been for sure. Some time ago my rural land real estate photographer work took me to this village in the far southwest corner of New Mexico. The most common way to get to Columbus would be to head due south from Deming, but I was coming from Arizona to the west. That drive redefined the middle of nowhere for me and a near complete lack of civilization and gas stations. Columbus can be a destination though, as it does have museums, parks, and a great hotel (Los Milagros Hotel) to stay at. I even found a good place for vegetarian food, the Borderland Cafe. If you have been to Columbus let me know in the comments below! If not, check out the map and take a visit for yourself.

Commercial Aerial Drone Photography in Albuquerque New Mexico NE Heights

Commercial Aerial Drone Photography in Albuquerque New Mexico NE Heights

Drone Aerial Photography for Commercial Purchases in Albuquerque

A recent client needed commercial aerial drone photography of a retail space in the northeast area of Albuquerque, New Mexico that highlighted how much traffic this area gets. What getting photos from 100+ feet in the air offers is not just the traffic passing right in front of the retail space, but traffic in all directions and even how full the parking lots are. A nice bonus of drone photos from that high was being able to get the Sandia Mountains in for a pretty background. The client will use these images in part to make an offer on two commercial businesses featured in the photos.

Torrance County New Mexico Rural Land Real Estate Photography Windy Moriarty

Torrance County New Mexico Rural Land Real Estate Photography Windy Moriarty

When light and sky and clouds come together for rural land photography

In the past 4 years I have photographed hundreds and hundreds of rural land real estate properties all over New Mexico. Every now and then the light and the sky make for an exceptional background to what in reality is just an empty piece of high desert. Such was the case for this property in Torrance County New Mexico, near Moriarty. The land had just one bush on it, and otherwise just foot high grass. However, thanks to an infinite sky filled with soft sunlight and painted with just the right amount of clouds, these rural land photos stand out. This does not happen by accident, as I waited over 2 weeks for just the right day for this client, even driving halfway out there (50 miles round trip!) only to turn around as it became too cloudy. This is the experience and professionalism I offer real estate clients. No one has photographed and flown over more rural land properties than I have. If you are interested in this land in particular, check out Hemingway Land for more info.

Professional Piano Detail Photography in Albuquerque New Mexico PianoWerkes

Professional Piano Detail Photography in Albuquerque New Mexico PianoWerkes

Inner beauty of pianos

A two day shoot at PianoWerkes in Albuquerque, New Mexico produced so many great images, this is the second blog post from those shoots (see showroom interior photos here). Having never really seen under the top of a piano before, I was instantly amazed at the detail to be found in the design. It’s not just a bunch of piano wires, there are sound hole openings, wooden braces, and embossed branding. After I got the main shots the client wanted, mostly for my own purposes, I went around with a 50mm lens and at times still some off camera lighting to get creative shallow depth of field shots that show pianos like one does not usually see. the client ended up liking these photos and purchasing them too!

Willie returns to the JCP Home Studio for a 4th style of headshot

Willie has been one of my best clients in the past year and a half. He has come for now four headshot photo sessions! Three have been here at the JCP Home Studio, and one was out on location in downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico. This time Willie wanted a specific gray vertical gradient background. He sent me a sample photo and I was able to match that exactly in the Covid-19 safe studio shoot we had. I really appreciate returning clients. Nothing feels better as a professional photographer than when a client continues to choose you for their photography. Thank you Willie!

Winter Views of the Sandia Mountains from Rio Rancho New Mexico

Winter Views of the Sandia Mountains from Rio Rancho New Mexico

Sandias from a unique perspective in Rio Rancho

I often have opportunities to photograph the Sandia Mountains of New Mexico from unique viewpoints that no one else can get because I am on private property photographing the land for real estate clients. Add to that exclusivity for this series of photos the fact the land was in a more established neighborhood setting with a hilly topography and I was able to make a close-up photo of the mountains with some flora in the foreground. In another photo I got lucky and capture a flock of birds flying by. Then of course hovering right over the mountaintops were some dramatic clouds to add that still little bit extra to make these some of my favorite photos of the Sandias yet.
