Malibu has long been a mythical place to me. It is mentioned in songs, it evokes memories of old surfer movies from the 1950s, it is where I know many celebrities and sports stars currently live, and I know from studying its geography it is close to LA, but still a good drive, thus offering relative access, but far enough away to be its own world. To get to it one is treated to a stunning drive on the PCH with the Santa Monica Mountains to one side and the vastness of the Pacific Ocean on the other.
You might recognize this custom Nissan 370Z in the drone video above, but if you do you have a sharp eye because when I first photographed it back in March of 2017, it was white! That shoot was for Rohana Wheels, this time I met owner Santi (follow him on Instagram) for a 4K drone video shoot.
I was back in Rio Arriba County New Mexico shooting two rural land properties for Hemingway Land which brought me to the Navajo Dam area with Navajo Lake on one side of it and the San Juan River on the other. Naturally I had my DJI Mavic Pro drone with me, but only had a little time to shoot some flyover video of the dam.
The Asilomar Beach area of Pacific Grove in California is a place I have daydreamed about for over 7 years. I had never been there, never known anyone who had gone there. This entire daydreaming took place far away from there in Florida. I just somehow knew, that if I could wish myself to be any place on Earth, this was it. From my first step there, I knew all I had daydreamed was verified.
For over a decade (or my whole life?) I daydreamed about driving up the Pacific Coast Highway in California going from Santa Monica, turning right where there is no more Road left, then following the Pacific Ocean all the way up to Monterey, stopping at such famous places as the Bixby Bridge. Recently I got to fulfill that dream and had my DJI Mavic Pro drone with me. I got bold, and flew it right under the bridge!
