Composite photos for the best commercial photography
I was contacted by Planar two months ago to make professional commercial photos of their LED panel displays products they installed in a call center in Hobbs, New Mexico. However, Covid-19 soon shut everything down and it took until now for it to be safe to travel to Hobbs and finally make the photos. To make these images I knew the challenge would be how to capture the bright LED displays in a dimly lit space.
How did I make the composite photos?
A single exposure would not do it. So I mounted my Sony a7R IV on my tripod and for the first photo set the shutter speed to expose the room nice and bright. For the second photo I set the shutter speed to get the LED display panels looking vivid and contrasty. So the first shutter speed was much slower allowing more time to let more light in so the room looked brighter, but the second shot had a much slower shutter speed so the bright LED panel did not get blowout looking. And since I shot on a tripod, the images were exactly the same save for exposure. This then allowed me in editing to mask in just the LED panels into the brightly exposed room photo.
