Construction Progress Drone Video in Pebble Beach
Aerial photography and 4K drone video for a major backyard renovation by Peninsula Construction
It was great to return to work with Gonzalo and Peninsula Construction for my second construction drone video project with them, this time documenting the progress of a large renovation at a home in Pebble Beach.
Most of the work was taking place behind the house, where a major backyard transformation was underway with a new lower deck area and a putting green planned for the finished space.
Seeing Construction Progress From the Air
Deep in the woods of Pebble Beach, I arrived at this job site to make in progress construction drone video for Gonzalo of Peninsula Construction. This was my second on location shoot for Gonzalo, the first being in Seaside. The majority of remaining construction at this Pebble Beach house was in the backyard putting in a new deck and putting green! This logistics were favorable for drone video at this site, with some trees, but none right overhead, not a power line in site, and Gonazalo’s crew in action working on the deck. This allowed me to get the drone in pretty close to the action, to contrast with higher establishing shots as well.

Construction Progress Content for Contractors
Construction photography and drone video can be useful for much more than simply documenting what a job site looks like on one particular day. Progress imagery can help contractors show clients how a project is developing, create marketing content throughout a build, document important stages of construction, and eventually tell the complete story from work in progress to the finished result.
For larger properties and exterior renovations in places like Pebble Beach, Carmel, Pacific Grove, and throughout the Monterey Peninsula, aerial photography can also show scale and layout in a way that traditional ground photography simply cannot.

These aerial photographs show several different perspectives of the work underway, from closer views of the new deck framing to much wider overhead photographs showing how large the backyard renovation actually is.
The straight down photographs are especially useful for construction progress because they remove much of the visual overlap you get from ground level. From directly above, the structure of the new lower deck, the curved landscaping elements, open construction areas, and the relationship to the existing upper patio can all be seen clearly in a single frame.
Having both drone video and high resolution aerial photographs from the same visit also gives a construction company more flexibility in how the project can be presented on its website, social media, project updates, and future marketing.
Why Document Construction Before It Is Finished?
Progress photography helps tell the complete story of a project
The finished photographs of a renovation may ultimately be the most visually dramatic, but the construction stages are what show how much work actually went into creating the final result.
For contractors, documenting a project at multiple stages can create a much stronger story than photographing only the completed space. Drone photography is particularly useful when large outdoor areas, landscaping, structural work, decks, driveways, and other exterior improvements are involved because one aerial view can reveal changes across the entire property.
This Pebble Beach project is a good example of that. At this stage, the future backyard could still be seen taking shape through framing, grading, construction materials, and open space. Those views become even more interesting once they can eventually be compared with the completed renovation.
