A new St. Petersburg home owner and her daughter - commercial Florida photography - Nikon D300 Tamron 17-50mm @ f/8 ISO 200 1/125th - Strobist: SB-800 @ 1/1 power in 43" brolly to frame left & SB-600 @ 1/1 power in 43" shoot through umbrella to frame rightThis was my second time (see first shoot) making a promotional photograph of a new homeowner for Crown Group Realty.  I really like these kinds of shoots going out on location and only needing to produce one or two images.  Rhonda and her baby daughter were great and the shooting part took less time than it did for me to setup my speedlights!

This home available in Lakewood Estates in St. Petersburg Florida Real Estate Photography - Nikon D300 Tamron 17-50mm @ f/11 ISO 200 1/50th tripod mounted with cable releaseI went to Lakewood Estates yesterday evening in St. Petersburg Florida to make commercial real estate photographs for long-time client Crown Group Realty.  I had never been to this area of St. Pete before and found it to have a bit of a northern feel with its forests and even slight, very slight, ground elevations, as seen in the front yard of the home above.  There is also a golf course winding through the neighborhood.

Pool home on a golf course St. Petersburg Real Estate Photography Florida - Nikon D300 Tamron 17-50mm @ f/11 ISO 200 1/40thThe backyard had a good sized pool with a view of a golf course.  While out making this shot I was a bit startled as there were actually people playing golf at 7pm on a Monday evening and often hitting the trees making unusual sounds I was not expecting!  I made a few shots around the pool keeping my ears open for any "fore!" calls.

New homeowner portrait for real estate client in St. Petersburg Florida - Nikon D300 Tamron 17-50mm @ f/6.3 ISO 200 1/60th - Strobist: SB-800 @ 1/2 power in 43" brolly to frame front left & SB-600 @ 1/2 power in 43" shoot through umbrella to frame right rearI normally photograph just homes for sale for Haike of Crown Group Realty, but this time she asked me to photograph some new homeowners in front of their new home in Allendale Terrace.  She wanted to give the couple a housewarming gift and I think it is a great idea for real estate agents to present new homeowners with a professional portrait of them in front of their new home.  

I used a 2-strobe setup, one in a brolly & the other a shoot through umbrella (I keep forgetting to make a photo of the actual setup!).  The brolly was the main light to my left and the shoot through umbrella was behind the couple for backlight.  I framed the couple under the curve of the tree branch behind them and included the house number in the composition.  I also had to be careful to avoid light reflections in the front window which I did by taking a few steps to my right.

I recently photographed this St. Petersburg area home for Crown Group Realty which had a surprising resort-like backyard.  I was not expecting to find something like it when I walked out the backdoor!  I chose to make a 7-exposure HDR image to show details in all areas of the yard, sky and home.

This morning I went to Bayfront Tower in downtown St. Petersburg to photograph an updated condo for sale.  I have shot from the open air top floor of the building before, producing a panorama image that has been my best selling fine art print.  This time I was on the 13th floor, which I only now realize I should have been afraid of!  The condo had recently been updated and the sellers did a very good job of staging their condo.

Dining room of downtown St. Pete condo, Florida real estate photography - Nikon D300 Tamron 17-50mm @ f/11 ISO 200 0.8 sec tripod mounted with cable releaseI used HDR for the top image as the inside of the condo is much darker than the direct sunlight out beyond the window.  A 9-exposure HDR image allowed me to show outside the window as well as inside the condo in one evenly exposed image.  HDR is not always necessary, as the above shot of the dining room did not have a high dynamic range (it helps that no windows are in the shot) so a single exposure was sufficient for producing a well exposed shot.  

Great room of downtown St. Petersburg Florida condo - St. Petersburg Real Estate Photography - Nikon D300 Tamron 17-50mm @ f/11 ISO 200 1.6 sec tripod mounted with cable releaseWhen making a shot of a room with an open doorway to another room, I always make sure that the adjoining room is also well lit, so that you can have a peak into the other room.  If not, then it would appear as a dark area in the image.  In the above shot I opened the blinds in the bedroom so that the light in that room matched the light in the great room.

St. Petersburg real estate photography - Kenwood neighborhood - kitchen view - Nikon D300 Tamron 17-50mm @ f/8 ISO 200 9-exposure HDR on Induro CT214 tripod with Nikon MC-30 cable releaseOn assignment for Crown Group Realty this morning to photograph a very nice house in the Kenwood neighborhood that had recently been renovated by the owners themselves.  I am always impressed by people's real world skills like home improvement.  They say kitchens sell homes and this kitchen opened up to the dining room and backyard.  I made a 9-exposore HDR image in order to pull out the details in the kitchen (no window) and in the dining room (windows on either side).

A functional living room in St. Petersburg Kenwood neighborhood - Nikon D300 Tamron 17-50mm @ f/8 ISO 200 1.3 secOften when looking at homes, both old and new, it is hard to set them up assuming you want a good viewing angle of your television.  Therefore, I chose to photograph this living room highlighting the great opportunity to setup a home theater due to its layout.  The sofa also faces the front door, which is something else I like in a home.

Old Northeast Real Estate Photography - living room with character - Nikon D300 Tamron 17-50mm @ f/11 ISO 200 7-exposure HDRI got another St. Petersburg real estate photography assignment from Haike of Crown Group Realty last week to photograph a very charming Old Northeast home with lots of character.  The great room features a high ceiling with exposed beams, a fireplace, hardwood floors and a rounded archway into the dining room.
