Headshots for a Monterey County Auditor-Controller Candidate
A Collaborative Campaign Headshot Session in Pacific Grove
Burcu Mousa (see the headshots I made for her on her campaign website) contacted me about making headshots and branding photos for her campaign to be Auditor-Controller for Monterey County. She visited my photo studio in downtown Pacific Grove, California bringing with her a number of wardrobe changes and I had reggae already playing per her request when I asked her what music vibe she wanted for her photo shoot! This was a fun, collaborative shoot, and yes, having a professional photo session matters because elections are visual. Since I shoot tethered to a 43” screen, Burco and I went through shot by shot during the session getting each headshot and branding photo just right in terms of lighting, background, and expression. She also changed wardrobe several times to match with the background and intention of each photo. In less than an hour long session, we were able to create 10 images she personally chose and that some of which are already up on her website! I really enjoy working with candidates running for political office. It definitely adds a little kind of extra buzz to the photo shoot in my mind! Thank you Burcu for choosing me as your photographer and trusting me to make the visuals that will be used in your campaign!

Campaign-Ready Headshots on Clean White Studio Background
Clear · Professional · Website and ballot guide friendly
For candidates running for public office, the goal is simple: look credible, approachable, and consistent everywhere your name appears. A clean white background helps keep the focus on the person, not the setting, and it makes these headshots easy to place on campaign websites, press pages, mailers, and social media graphics. These images are designed to communicate steadiness and clarity at a glance, which is exactly what voters and community members are looking for when they are learning who you are.
Approachable Leadership Portraits
Warm expression · Calm confidence · Strong first impression
A great candidate headshot is not only “professional,” it is personal in the right way. These portraits lean into approachability and leadership at the same time. The expression is steady, the posing feels natural, and the styling stays clean and intentional. When people are deciding who they want representing them, images like these help them feel like they are meeting a real person, not just reading a name and a title.
Modern Candidate Headshots with Depth
Polished lighting · Confident presence · Standout look
These cropped in headshots are a strong fit for social media, endorsements, speaking event announcements, and press use, where you want the image to stand out in a scroll. The depth of focus, lighting, and posing are designed to feel modern and professional, while still keeping the person front and center.
Timeless Black and White Candidate Portraits
Focused · Editorial · Enduring
Black and white portraits bring the focus to expression, light, and presence. Without color competing for attention, the focus stays entirely on the person. For candidates running for public office, this can be especially powerful. These portraits feel serious, thoughtful, and intentional, while still remaining approachable and human.
Black and white headshots like these work well for campaign websites, press features, endorsements, and long-term use where a timeless look matters. They also translate beautifully across different platforms and layouts, holding up well whether viewed large or small. When used alongside color headshots, they add depth and variety to a candidate’s visual identity while reinforcing credibility and trust.
Candidate Headshots in Real Campaign Use
Headshots integrated into a live campaign website
Seeing how headshots are actually used is just as important as the portraits themselves. These screenshots show Burcu Mousa using the images from our session across her campaign website, including her main landing page and biography section. The headshots were created with this exact kind of real-world use in mind, ensuring they work well alongside typography, messaging, and campaign branding.
For candidates running for public office, headshots are not standalone images. They need to function within a broader visual system that includes websites, digital outreach, and campaign materials. Photographing with that end use in mind helps ensure consistency, clarity, and a professional presentation that builds trust with voters.
