Balloon Fiesta 2018 - we tried, twice!
Not only is this a belated balloon fiesta post (due to tech issues with my laptop), but it is not an amazing one because, in the terms of balloonists, it was a static morning on the second day of the fiesta here in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Jessica and I tried to get to opening day, but even at 5am traffic was backed up for miles. We got up at 3am and at the park well before 4am the next day, no traffic, we got right in. Great, right? Nope, at ground level there was a slight wind, which means at altitude way too much wind for the balloons, a static morning. Most balloons did inflate, so the photos you see are all of them floating, but still firmly tethered to the ground. For balloons in the air, check out my Balloon Fiesta 2017 Top 5 Photos.
Of note from the photos:
In the top photo you can see the morning laser light show in a long exposure with a truck driving past (red dashes)
A new special shape balloon this year, the artist Vincent Van Gogh, but he still has his ear!
