Cibola County is peaceful unlike any other place in New Mexico
Cibola County is one of my favorite places in New Mexico. Much of the county has no cell signal, especially in the El Morro, Ramah, and Fence Lake areas. Being in this off the grid area gives me a peaceful feeling that nowhere else in the state does. However, this was all shockingly disrupted by . . . an alpaca!
Enter the alpaca!
I was on a rural land real estate shoot, as I have done many times before in this county, trying to pinpoint the border of the property. Using a screenshot of the parcel border and switching back to Google Maps, I was concentrating on this task for a couple of minutes, not looking up. This is a very remote area, no one around at all, and I was well into the several acre property away from the dirt road. So when I looked up and saw a towering, seemingly bipedal figure, staring right at me in what I perceived as demonic clothing, in a split second I thought I finally meet my end here in a very remote part of New Mexico. I blinked. When I opened my eyes this time, I could start to tell it was an animal of sorts, but still looked devil like to me! Then the creature turned sideways and I could see it had four legs and a very, very shaggy coat. I thought this was a llama, but later learned it was an alpaca. It had no reaction to me whatsoever, until I started to walk over to it in an attempt to make friends. Then it scurried off aways. It scare me first, I scared it second!
