A 70th birthday party is not only about reaching a major milestone. It is about bringing family and friends together, honoring a life full of stories, and creating photographs that help everyone remember how it felt to be there. For Patricia’s birthday celebration at Wave Street Studios in Monterey, her daughter Shandra wanted event photography that captured both the special portraits and the real moments happening throughout the evening.
Family and Friends Came from Near and Far to Celebrate Patricia’s 70th Birthday
Shandra contacted me about photographing her mom’s (Patricia) 70th birthday party event at Wave Street Studios in Monterey, California. It was a short 1.5 mile drive for me, but I quickly learned that many people came from much, much further away to join the celebration! With roots in Seaside, San Antonio, and Atlanta, this was a cross country gathering. Things started with many emotional reunions between generations of family from siblings to spouses to aunts & uncles to nieces and nephews. There was of course cake, but also a Patricia Trivia contest that I thought was a fantastic party idea! Things finished for me photography-wise with a marathon of family portraits as everyone wanted a photo with the Patricia on her 70th birthday. This was definitely one of the more fun events I have ever photographed. Thank you Shandra for choosing me as your photographer for this family event!

The balloon display and birthday backdrop created a perfect portrait location for Patricia’s family and friends as they arrived at Wave Street Studios. Since so many guests traveled from different places to be there, these group photos were especially important. I made sure to capture a variety of combinations with Patricia so her family would have keepsake images from a rare occasion when everyone was together in one place.
Birthday Trivia and Tribute
For the people that could not be there, they sent in video birthday tributes and wishes. These are some reactions shots to those videos. Then Shandra led a game of “Patricia Trivia” that got everyone very excited and involved. Even I tried answering one question, haha!
