Hello U.S. Surgeon General!
On a Sunday afternoon in I was walking into the Santa Fe Convention Center to photograph an event for ACOMS and to my great surprise I learned I was photographing the actual U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. Jerome Adams! I was told I would only be photographing a presenter and then some candids of the vendor area. This was not my first time photographing a prominent political figure. In Florida in 2011 I had the chance to spend a day photographing then U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis. I have also photographed three governors, a U.S. Senator, U.S Representatives, and at least 3 mayors.
It is always interesting to me watching people gravitate to people with power, especially people with power in the government. I had a hard time getting the photos I did of the Surgeon General that you see below among the many people wanting to get their own cell phone photos with him! Like most politicians I have photographed, he was very warm to everyone around him and gave the impression when he was listening to you talk to him, that you two were the only two people in the room. This is a trait perhaps unique to politicians in particular. I also respected that he took time after his hour long presentation, then listening to the next presenter, he went over to the registration table to take a photo with all the people behind the scenes that made the event possible.
