The weather forecast was right - we awoke to snow this morning in Iowa!  I was still surprised to see it.

For me it was the first time to see snow in at least 8 years.  For Kiki, it was the first time in her life.   She went out this morning and stopped at the edge of the snow sniffing it suspiciously then carefully walked out a few steps before wanting to come back!  After a second time out, she was totally fine and running around as usual chasing me down a hill while I went sledding for the first time in ages.

Leaveless bushes and trees might welcome the snow so they turn beautiful again - Nikon D300 with Nikkor 50mm @ f/2 ISO 200 1/400th

Later in the afternoon I drove on snow for the first time in my life and we went to downtown West Branch to see how the scenery transforms when snow covered.  It looks as beautiful as expected.

The moon door to a famous outhouse - Nikon D300 with Nikkor 50mm @ f/2 ISO 200 1/320th

We walked around the park and creek we have often done before with the crunch of the snow under foot and paw and the drip, drip, drip of the already starting to melt snow from the bare tree branches overhead.  That moon door above is to an outhouse of the two-room tiny cottage President Hoover was born in!

Even on her first day in snow in her life, Kiki is still serious! - Nikon D300 with Nikkor 50mm @ f/2 ISO 200 1/500th

For a lifelong Florida dog, Kiki took to snow right away!  Amazing her paws were ok and not a shiver to be seen!
