Carmel Meadows Trail Coastal Views

Afternoon light, California poppies, and Monterey Bay views along Ribera Road in Carmel

A Quiet Afternoon with an Old Friend Along the Carmel Coast

My oldest and best friend, Terry, made another visit to Pacific Grove recently. On a spectacular February afternoon, we went back to Carmel Meadows Trail, a place we first visited when he helped me move to the area. We did not hike far after finding a bench with the view you see above. The view was just stunning, and we both just enjoyed some quiet contemplation time as the fog rolled in below the setting sun. Just one of the many, amazing, and totally free places along the Monterey coast one can enjoy an afternoon unlike anywhere else in the world.

Carmel Meadows Trail and the Carmel Coastline

Carmel Meadows Trail (see map & directions below) is one of the quieter scenic coastal viewpoints along the Carmel coastline, located just off Ribera Road south of Carmel-by-the-Sea. The short trail offers beautiful views of the rocky shoreline, Monterey Bay, and seasonal coastal vegetation including blooming California poppies. On this recent visit, the morning light and low coastal fog created dramatic ocean reflections and soft atmospheric light across the water.

This stretch of coastline is known for its mix of rugged rock formations, native coastal plants, and wide ocean views that stretch across Monterey Bay. Even on a short walk along Carmel Meadows Trail, the scenery changes constantly depending on the season, weather, and coastal light. The combination of spring wildflowers, ocean fog, and clear blue skies made this a particularly beautiful morning to photograph the area.
