Hole in one through a tree in Cloudcroft

Hiking in Cloudcroft, New Mexico I came across a fallen tree on the side of a steep bank. It appeared hollowed out at the bottom, but to my surprise, stooping over I could see light at the end of the tunnel. The tree is a hole in one hollow all the way up. I have no idea how this happens to a poor tree. It was interesting to imagine going up all the way through the tree and who knows what dimension I might come out on the other side! I thought black and white processing added to the mystery.

A Trestle that is part of Cloudcroft History

The drive to Cloudcroft, New Mexico from Alamogordo is one of the best drives in the entire state. Winding up a canyon through tiny villages, the final sight to see before Cloudcroft is the Mexican Canyon Trestle, a bridge built in 1899. There is a pull out to stop and observe this old wooden structure from a time when this area had a very different life. I finally happened to pass it by at sunset time, and with my new Sony 12-24mm f/2.8 G Master lens, that ultra wide 12mm focal length was just enough to get most of the trestle and the sunset in the shot. There are many reasons why Cloudcroft is one of my favorite places in New Mexico, and the Mexican Canyon Trestle is one of them. For more info, check out the Wikipedia page for this trestle.

See a photo, stop and make the photo

It was a long day at this point when I was driving up a twisting and rising mountain road from Timberon, New Mexico back up to Cloudcroft, New Mexico. Earlier that morning I had made the 3.5 drive from Albuquerque to Cloudcroft. Checked in to the same B&B I stayed at last time I was in Cloudcroft (the excellent Crofting Inn). Made the hour drive down to TImberon and then spent 2.5 hours outside making photographs and flying my drone over a rural land real estate property.
